Honest answers about what to expect, who these therapies suit, and how to make the most of your session.
You don't need to choose in advance. Every new client begins with a 90-minute initial consultation that includes a thorough health-history conversation and your first treatment. Together we look at what's bringing you in, your medical history, and what your nervous system seems to be asking for — and we build the session around that. Many clients end up with a blended approach.
For Bowen and Reiki, loose, comfortable clothing is ideal — these sessions are done fully clothed. For reflexology you'll only need to remove footwear and roll trousers slightly above the ankle.
Have a light meal one to two hours beforehand and arrive well-hydrated. Avoid heavy caffeine in the hour before, and where possible give yourself a quiet half-hour after the session rather than rushing back into something demanding.
Yes — please complete the new-client intake form at least 24 hours before your first session. It's confidential, takes about ten minutes, and lets us spend more of your appointment time on the work itself.
Most clients describe it as both grounding and deeply restful — a quality of stillness the body rarely gets to access. Reflexology involves firm but comfortable pressure on the feet, hands, face, or ears. Bowen feels like a series of light, precise rolls with long pauses in between. Reiki is largely still and quiet. It's normal to drift in and out of sleep.
No. Pressure is always adjusted to your comfort — say so at any time. Some reflex points may feel briefly tender, which can correspond to areas of imbalance, but the work should never be painful.
Most people feel softened, sleepy, and notably calmer. Some experience a brief increase in symptoms over the next 24–48 hours as the body integrates — this is generally a good sign and passes quickly. Drink plenty of water, give yourself permission to rest, and notice what shifts.
It depends entirely on what you're working with. Acute concerns sometimes shift in two or three sessions; longer-standing patterns often benefit from a course of four to six, then maintenance. We'll discuss this honestly after your first visit, and you're free to pause or stop at any time.
Yes — there's a dedicated menopause reflexology protocol targeting the endocrine and nervous systems. Many clients find meaningful support for hot flushes, sleep disturbance, mood, and joint discomfort. It works well alongside HRT and medical care, never instead of.
From the second trimester onwards, reflexology is generally considered safe and is widely used in pregnancy support — for sleep, swelling, and stress. I do not treat in the first trimester unless under specialist referral. Please share your pregnancy details on the intake form so we can plan accordingly.
In most cases, yes — these are gentle, non-invasive therapies that complement medical care. There are some specific contraindications (acute DVT, certain cancer treatments, recent surgery, uncontrolled cardiovascular events) where timing or treatment may need adjusting. Please complete the intake form fully and, if in doubt, send a note ahead of booking.
Yes — pressure and pacing are always adjusted to the person. Children are welcomed with a parent or guardian present. Older clients often respond beautifully to Bowen and gentle reflexology, particularly for joint stiffness, sleep, and circulation.
Visit the booking page to choose a time, or send a message if you'd prefer to talk first. New clients should complete the intake form before their first appointment.
Twenty-four hours' notice is appreciated. Late cancellations and no-shows may be charged at 50% of the session fee. That said — life happens, and exceptions are made with kindness when something genuinely unavoidable comes up.
I don't offer treatment packages. As a wellness practice working within a clinical scope rather than a spa model, sessions are recommended individually based on what your body needs at the time, not sold in bundles. Gift vouchers are available, however, and make a considered gift for someone you'd like to support. Send a note via the contact page to arrange one.
If you are insured with a scheme that covers therapeutic reflexology under AHPCSA registration, an itemised invoice can be issued for you to submit. Please confirm your scheme's policy directly — coverage varies.
Therapeutic Reflexology is a regulated allied health profession in South Africa, and I am registered with the Allied Health Professions Council of South Africa (AHPCSA) under licence number A12486, with BHF practice number 1023853 for medical-aid claim submission. Bowen Therapy and Reiki are complementary treatments with their own training bodies — for Bowen I'm a Bowtech-trained practitioner and member of the Bowen Association of South Africa, and my Reiki training is in the traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho lineage.
